During my traveling through Europe, I used a variety of travel guides. You will often find Backpacker hostels will provide libraries with discarded travel guides that former travelers have left behind. Often at the end of their stay in a particular location. It is a nice gesture and often a practical way of reducing your baggage weight. I found the Lonely Planet to be the most useful. These are all available on devices such as the iPad and kindle and have some advantages in this format.
Below are guides that I used during my 3 month traveling through Europe. Some I purchased before leaving Australia and others I picked up along the way in Backpackers.
